CLOUDSHINE GLOBAL MUSIC, AN INDEPENDENT RECORD LABEL, MAKES ITS DEBUT WITH THE LAUNCH OF ITS FIRST RELEASE SOMEWHERE IN THIS ROOM, SEPTEMBER 18, 2007 Somewhere In This Room is an collection of new music which combines the elegant lyricism of vocalist Laura Pursell with memorable melodies composed by Andrew Bonime, founder of Cloudshine Global Music and the project’s Executive Producer Thousand Oaks, CA - July 30, 2007 – If you’ve ever wondered what happened to good music, music that remains in your head even though you’ve only heard it once or twice, and music that speaks to your soul, take heart. On September 18th Cloudshine Global Music, the new independent label founded by composer Andrew Bonime, will release its first offering entitled SOMEWHERE IN THIS ROOM. This new project has been created to showcase music which has an elegance, maturity and sophistication, and which possesses an emotional depth often lacking in what is presently offered to the music-buying public. It differs in that there is a cohesive emotional theme which wends its way through each song ¯ from Overture to Finale ¯ of gaining understanding and perspective after moving through an oasis of loss and regret and reaching a haven of inner peace and reconciliation. This new album is designed to provide the listener with a full-on aural experience. Each track has a narrative, a musical short story which invites the listener to be actively engaged with it as an complete emotional and musical experience. SOMEWHERE IN THIS ROOM is a songbook or body of work which ably displays a variety of musical genres – from rock (“It Might As Well Be Magic”), blues (“Not Much To Lose”), gospel (“I’ll Wait”), bossa nova (“When You Smile”), jazz (“He Is Everywhere”), and even a children’s song (“Maple Tree”). Ultimately, though, Bonime says: “This album pays homage to melody and lyrics at their finest. It celebrates the experience of being alive and being connected to others and to life itself. These songs recall our youth and our maturity in the ways we deal with the profound experience of life. My hope is that listeners, those who love music which encourages them to think about it long after the album ends, will find a reflection of their own experience with life’s emotional journey reflected here.” A concept album which explores all the various nuances inherent in relationships, romantic and otherwise, SOMEWHERE IN THIS ROOM is a 12-track set which opens with a lush orchestration of the title track and “When You Come Down” which immediately follows. It closes with a jazz-influenced orchestral redux of “He Is Everywhere.” Serving as conductor and arranger as well as playing piano on both the opening and closing tracks is composer/arranger/pianist William Pursell who is best known for the 1963 hit single “Our Winter Love.” Jim Monahan, who has worked with Kenny Loggins and Chris Hillman of The Byrds, among others, is the musical director for the vocal tracks. Multi-gold and platinum engineer Michael C. Ross who has lent his expertise as a master engineer to Christina Aguilera’s hit single, “Come On Over Baby”, and “Lady Marmalade” which appears on the soundtrack of “Moulin Rouge” and other notable projects mixed the album and engineered the orchestral sessions. The visionary behind this project is Andrew Bonime, who after a long and successful tenure as a feature film producer (Bonime produced the feature films The Bell Jar and C.H.U.D., among others) turned his attentions back to his first love namely, writing and composing music. It is no wonder Andy is a composer. He is the grandnephew of Josef Bonime who was one of the major proponents of the music of the “Swing” era, and who is credited with discovering Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa and Lionel Hampton. “This album is one way I can honor the legacy of my great-uncle. If there’s anything of him in my work, it’s a belief that good music is a bridge that has the unerring ability to unite and literally, move people. If you look at old newsreel footage from that period, you see all kinds of people dancing, totally caught up in the pulse of the music. And if you look closely enough, you’ll see that they represent the entire spectrum of humanity. That’s what I hope to accomplish with ‘Somewhere In This Room,’” says Bonime. Nashville native Laura Pursell has written the lyrics for each song that appears on SOMEWHERE IN THIS ROOM, all of them ‘mined’ from the voluminous diaries she’s kept since she was eight-years-old. Vocally, Laura’s phrasing and sublime clarity of delivery call to mind similarities to the iconic Karen Carpenter. “I could never have written these songs 10 or 15 years ago. These songs come from a perspective of loss, regret and illumination,” says Laura. “The great thing about writing a song is that you can give yourself the license to take a memory, examine it from a distance and ask yourself some hard questions – ‘What did it mean?’ or ‘Why was I wish that person?’ and “Did I learn anything?’ All the answers to those questions informed these lyrics, and through this whole process, I found that I’m much more capable of empathy and forgiveness than I ever realized I was.” In the end, for Andrew Bonime and Laura Pursell, it’s all about creating music that resonates, music that has a universality, and music that takes us on a journey and serves as an emotional “sherpa” to our emotional past and a bridge to our future. It’s rich, layered, compelling and unique. You are cordially invited to enter into the “room” created by Andy’s musicianship and outfitted with the subtle artistry of Laura’s poignant lyrics and expressive, mood-enhancing voice, and join them on a musical voyage that celebrates life and honors love, and gives new meaning to our collective present.
